Can you brief us about your scope of work during this internship?
During this internship, I worked on Document Recognition & Management (DRM) along with Data Lake.
What were your key roles & responsibilities and how did you work towards achieving them?
My responsibilities included planning, development, testing, and debugging. Everything was done iteratively/incrementally per Agile principles.
Among your many tasks, what is the one that you liked working on the most?
I particularly enjoyed working on the image classification model for fraud detection. I was not expecting to work much on machine learning when I started as an intern, but it was surprisingly fun.
What was the biggest challenge you came across and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge was getting accustomed to such a large, complex codebase. It was hard to know where to start. However, I overcame this challenge through the help of my co-workers and by stepping through.
What new skillsets and/or knowledge did you gain during your time with ANB?
I’ve learned a lot about service-oriented architecture. To start with, most of my experience was on the back-end. So, it was good that I got more experience with front-end languages and frameworks such as JavaScript and Vue. I also learned much more about machine learning.
What do you feel are the highlights of working at a ‘smaller’ tech company?
You have more involvement with projects that will truly make an impact – from the planning of the design/architecture to development and sometimes even to deployment.
What are the key takeaways from your exposure to the energy efficiency industry?
It’s a large industry that can undoubtedly benefit from modern technology and software like the kind provided by ANB Systems.
How did you find our company culture and the support you received from your colleagues?
My co-workers were all very supportive and helpful. Any blocking issues were usually resolved very quickly. The time difference with the offshore team took some time to get used to.
How easy/challenging was it to collaborate remotely with COVID-19 restrictions in place?
I was not working remotely for this internship since COVID-19 restrictions loosened significantly around the time I started.
How much did the internship match your expectations?
This internship exceeded my expectations.
How much do you feel your internship will help you in your career going forward?
The experience I gained here will help me immensely moving forward. Overall, I can say that it was a positive experience, and I learned a lot that will be of benefit later on.
