Energize 2022 continued into Day 5 with presentations on Technology and Tooling. Deep Dives and Lightning Talks covered developments in the support tools, benefit/cost analysis module, analytics using Open Search, serverless computing, enhancements to testing procedures, Cucumber for testing automated processes, and Appium to streamline testing of the mobile application. Most of today’s presentations were focused on tools for ANBites to drive operational improvements. While ANB clients may not readily see these, the impact will be realized in faster response times to trouble tickets and improved testing procedures.
The session started with a review of internal activity tracking tools. eTRACK+ is being considered a replacement for the existing system because of its configurability in tracking support requests or sprint activities. This effort generated many positive comments as the existing system can be difficult to use. An interesting presentation was given on how the benefit/cost calculation module can be added to eTRACK+. This will allow utility program administrators to see the cost-effectiveness at the measure, program, and portfolio level. Next up was a talk on using OpenSearch to monitor activity logs that will assist the support team in identifying root cause issues. The DevOps team discussed innovations in serverless computing, making more efficient use of server capacity. The QA Automation team described how the Python software simplifies the testing of APIs. In the following presentation, we also learned that not only is Cucumber a tasty vegetable, but it is a powerful, easy-to-use testing tool. The day’s final talk from the Mobile Automation team covered how the Appium Framework makes testing mobile applications easier in any operating system. The “Mobile Automation” presentation was awarded as best of the day.
Day 6 will be an outside speaker from PotHoleRaja®. They strive to make roads in India safer by repairing any reported potholes in just 3-5 days. PotHoleRaja leverages public-private partnerships and engages the community to help in their venture of making roads potholes free. While Energize 2022 is coming to a close, ANBites are invigorated at the prospects of achieving the roadmap to scale up implementations.
