Municipal Utilities tend to have a long term community goal with local control, local regulation and local presence. The
utility is owned by the citizens it serves and exists to provide a public service to the citizens, businesses and industries of the community. With over 2900 municipal and
cooperative utilities constituting around 28% of power generated in the US, such public utilities are not for profit. They have an exemplary potential for
energy savings through active energy efficiency
program participation, yet realizing this to the full
extent has been a struggle to many. But there is
hope. The quicker they adopt to the emerging digital
trends, the faster they close the gap.
