Can you brief us about your scope of work during this internship?
During this internship, I worked with the DG-Oncor Team, reviewing applications and learning about the workflow and the nuances of eTRACK+. I also finished my internship with a whitepaper.
What were your key roles & responsibilities, and how did you work towards achieving them?
My key roles and responsibilities were to review live applications in eTRACK+, rectify discrepancies found in any of the tabs, and make the decision whether to push a project forward or not.
Among your many tasks, what is the one that you liked working on the most?
I enjoyed learning about the battery market, doing research on emerging technologies, and preparing a whitepaper.
What was the biggest challenge you came across, and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge was dealing with a major project application, which was unusual compared to the other small system projects with multiple DG systems. I first tried to approach the problem independently and proposed my solution, but I needed to be corrected. I tried again using a different approach, and in the end, I reached out to my mentor and learned how to deal with applications such as these.
What new skillsets and/or knowledge did you gain during your time with ANB?
I was able to learn how to navigate and use eTRACK+, how to interact with clients, and how to work efficiently with a team in the corporate world. I also learned about the DG market, the home energy storage market, and what goes into installing and operating a DG system.
What do you feel are the highlights of working at a ‘smaller’ tech company?
Working at a smaller tech company opens more doors for hands-on learning, rather than “sideline observing”, and a more liberal delegation of tasks. It allows interns to gain initial experience in a professional and technical workspace while preparing them for more complex working environments in the future.
What are the key takeaways from your exposure to the energy efficiency industry?
I found the industry as something that is rapidly expanding, with the need for automation becoming apparent. The sheer number of installation applications reviewed weekly is staggering, and the increased cooperation between installers, utility companies, and software companies such as ANB is crucial to the smooth transition to sustainable energy sources.
How did you find our company culture and the support you received from your colleagues?
I found the working environment relaxed and manageable, with great timely communication, ample room for learning from mistakes, and more independence. I received great advice, constructive criticism, and instructions from my mentors and colleagues.
How much did the internship match your expectations?
The internship exceeded my expectations due to my placement in a field I had limited prior knowledge about, but due to constant experiential teaching, I was able to perform well in my role within the company.
How much do you feel your internship will help you in your career going forward?
The time I spent at ANB Systems will help me a lot in my career going forward. This is because it has prepared me for client-focused roles in my career, as well as how to operate and communicate in a professional workspace.
