RetailEnergyDesk is a complete back office portal solution for Retail Electric Companies which operate in the deregulated marketplace. ReD offers a 'solution framework' as opposed to a 'pre-packaged solution' in order to cater to the custom requirements of energy retailers' unique business model. The 'RetailEnergyDesk Solution Framework' provides essential analytical information that helps electric retailers make effective and timely decisions.

The modules of the RetailEnergyDesk cover every aspect of the back office transactions of an energy retailer.

Customer Pricing

The ReD Customer Pricing module is a complex and efficient pricing tool that prices customer loads across congestion zones and TDSPs. Pricing can be done at the individual account or aggregated across accounts for multiple terms. Products such as fixed price, heat rate, index price among others can be easily priced. This module is linked to other modules including ReD Downloads for forward prices, ReD ESIID Check to validate account numbers, and ReD Meter Data Management for account level load profiles. Further, the pricing module links to the CIS system and has an inbuilt prospect and contract management system thus integrating the pricing function to the entire back office. Additionally, the pricing results can be accessed not only by the Pricing Desk but also by sales reps, aggregators and even customers. An integrated pricing module will enhance the productivity of the Pricing Desk and the entire sales force.

Deal Capture System

The ReD Deal Capture System is an easy and user friendly way to capture trades made on different products including Electric (both fixed price and heat rate), Gas, and Option trades. One of the key features of the application is that it can easily integrate with other modules such as the ReD Load Forecast to provide Position Reports, ReD Schedules to directly submit schedules to the ISO, and ReD Downloads to obtain market prices for mark to market positions or forecasted profiles for settlement purposes. As each trade is done the information is entered into the system that keeps an audit trail of changes to trades and the credit limits assigned to individual traders. A multitude of reports allows the user to check against counterparty invoices, examine individual trades, and evaluate positions in each interval.

Downloads

ReD Downloads is an easy and automatic way to download and maintain daily market information such as prices, load profiles, and other routine scheduled publications by the ISO or from other third parties. The downloads are done through a number of methods including API, XML, Web Services, and even screen scraping when no other option exists. The downloaded information is parsed and put into databases and then displayed graphically. All downloaded information can be exported to Excel. This module provides the data needed by other ReD modules such as the ReD Load Forecast and ReD Price Forecast. It can also be linked to other databases such as the Customer Information System or any third party databases to periodically upload and display other critical information needed to run an effective business.

ESIID Check

ReD ESIID Check is a specific application for the ERCOT market to validate ESIID account information. This web based application uses an API to fetch ESIID details from ERCOT and then can be linked to other verification protocols. The results can be used in the sales process to develop a Letter of Authorization for obtaining data from the TDSP. The results directly feed into the ReD Customer Pricing application to continue the pricing process and the customer enrollment process. Data can be easily exported into Excel.

Load Forecast

ReD Load Forecast is a short term load forecasting model for the ERCOT market that develops the load forecast for an aggregated group of accounts, for one or multiple customers and is a predictive analytics for load. It provides a flexible way to import customer details and historical load information. This module is linked to the ReD Downloads and uses both the ERCOT forecasted and backcasted load profiles to generate the aggregated account load forecast for the next four days. The forecast gives a short-term prediction of load for both interval and non-interval accounts. The forecasts are graphically represented and can be aggregated by customers, congestion zones, profiles, and TDSPs. The load forecast is also linked to the ReD Deal Capture System to capture supply trades based on forecasted profiles, and this module computes the Load Backcast.

Meter Data Management

ReD Meter Data Management is a meter data repository and analytical tool that collects interval data from various feeds including automated scheduled downloads as well as manual user initiated uploads of data. The data is displayed in various forms ranging from monthly usage to interval profiles. The data can also be averaged and profiled so that it can be used for other applications such as load forecasting in ReD Load Forecast and for pricing in ReD Customer Pricing. The data can also be used in conjunction with ReD Downloads to examine the MCPE prices during the same intervals and to determine the total customer bill under a MCPE product. The application provides the data to the user in a format that opens up a world of possibilities including demand response, energy efficiency, and energy cost management.

Price Forecast

ReD Price Forecast is a predictive analytics for Market Clearing Price for Energy (MCPE) in ERCOT. It gives a congestion zone-wise (across ERCOT control area) short-term (for 4 days) hourly predictions of MCPE, enabling the market participant to make better decisions regarding future supply contracts. The Price Forecast module can be linked to the ReD Downloads module to download real time MCPE prices as well as the ReD Deal Capture System and the ReD Schedules to determine the amount of purchases to be made in the day-ahead and hour-ahead markets. The forecasts are presented in multiple forms ranging from interval period prices to average prices for the day. The forecasts can be instantly compared against actuals on an interval basis as well as on a daily basis.

Schedules

ReD Schedules is an application that manages the scheduling function for multiple market participants (REPs and QSEs) in the ERCOT control area. Currently configured for a Level 2 QSE, this module works in tandem with the ReD Downloads module to automatically download Ancillary Services once a day from ERCOT. Additionally, this module in conjunction with the ReD Deal Capture System can submit interval or hourly energy and ancillary services schedules to ERCOT. Finally, Schedule Mismatches are monitored at user defined intervals and alerts are issued when there are mismatches. ReD Schedules helps QSEs prepare, validate, and submit their schedules to ERCOT on demand. It has many user friendly features such as the flexibility to replicate the existing schedule as a new schedule. The application works for an REP acting as their own QSE, or QSE's submitting schedules for a number of market participants.
